Pre-HND Support
A Pre-HND program is provided to help students enter the HND level. The skills provided in this program are carefully integrated into the course to help students achieve success in the BTEC HND qualifications and beyond.
Academic and Business English
Students will be provided with the skills and strategies needed to communicate and achieve results using the English language. Reading, writing, listening and speaking skills will be developed essential for university studies and the workplace. Students will learn how to write a well-structured and professional report and be introduced to a variety of research methodologies and documentation forms. Presentation skills will also be developed as an important aspect of students’ activities. All Business and Design students may follow this Pre-HND program.
Business Economics
Through wide discussion of economic principles and case studies students will practice analytical skills and learn basic concepts and current trends in economics in the global context, with reference to the UK, European Union and locally. Students will develop knowledge of key aspects of economics such as Market Structure, Law of Supply and Demand, International Trade, unemployment, inflation & exchange rates, and other theories. Students will examine the impact of current affairs on the economic situation of a country and the global economic community.
Business Communications (Communicating, Working with and Relating to Others)
Students will examine the importance of communication in business and the wider society of the global context. Students will look at various communication skills and practical business communications. They will create business, written documents such as memos, proposals, and letters. Training and seminars are provided to enhance verbal skills. Through exploring communication students will also shape their ability to develop their interpersonal skills and this will help them to achieve personal objectives in business using various forms of communication tools.
Introduction to Accounting and Finance (Applying Numeracy, Managing Tasks & Solving Problems)
Students are provided with basic knowledge of accounting and an introduction to financial matters and their place and impact on doing business. Students will explore accounting concepts and principles; consider the accounting cycle, learn of recording processes and book-keeping skills. There will be introductions to financial management and its impact on business organizations, strategies and planning. Students will begin to consider markets, financial institutions and interests rates and how these can and will influence business decision-making and problem-solving.
Mathematics for Business (Applying Numeracy)
The skill and knowledge targeted here is carefully designed for students who wish to continue further to a bachelor degree in business or commerce studies and it is a prerequisite of the HND Unit – Business Decision Making. This course will introduce students to basic numerical skills and techniques in business. Students will learn to skillfully apply selected numerical techniques and then be able to draw justified and valid conclusions. Upon completing this unit students will have stronger critical thinking skills to perform business analysis and decision making.
